Chongwe River Camp is located on the confluence of the Chongwe and Zambezi Rivers in Zambia with wonderful views of the Muchinga Mountains to the north. Across the Chongwe River is the Lower Zambezi National Park which offers a pristine wilderness with a wide variety of terrain.
There are no fences at Chongwe, so animals are free to roam and have complete right of way. Without even leaving the camp, guests are able to see and hear a wide variety of wildlife. Relaxing in the sitting area overlooking the river, you will see a constant procession of game wandering down to drink, as well as over 250 species of birds.
Chongwe River Camp is a simple but comfortable camp comprising six tented chalets with ensuite facilities and private verandah overlooking the river. The camp has a rustic bar and meals are served outside either on the banks of the Chongwe River, or in the bush overlooking the Zambezi River.
The chalets are large, well appointed Mulati tents under thatch, with a luxury open air bathroom on suite. Situated under a canopy of Albida thorns and surrounded by cool lawns, they command fabulous views over the confluence of the Chongwe and Zambezi Rivers. Each tent sleeps two people, in twin or double beds.
The bathrooms at Chongwe River Camp are an experience on their own. Here guests can shower under the stars or the early morning sunshine. All fittings are made from natural materials found near the lodge.
Chongwe River Camp's chef will prepare a wide variety of dishes, which are served at the outdoor dining table. Dining al fresco in the gloaming of an African night, under a canopy of stars with the sounds of the bush as a backdrop, is truly an unforgettable experience!
Safari activities within the Lower Zambezi National Park include game drives, guided bush walks and boat trips, and guests are likely to see buffalo, elephant, lion and leopard. Birding is also good in this area, or alternatively you can fish the Zambezi for tigerfish and bream.
