ITINERARY:
Day 1

Depart Durban in the morning and arrive at Hluhluwe village in northern KwaZulu-Natal before lunch. Transfer to an open game viewing vehicle for the trip into the Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Game Reserve - Africa’s oldest, and home to the 'Big Five' plus an abundance of other animal species. Be rewarded with amazing sightings of rhino, zebra and giraffe on the ascent to Hilltop camp, so named for its incredible views over the pristine reserve. Leave the park in the late afternoon/ early evening to return to a Maputaland lodge, situated on a small private reserve for dinner under the African sky (weather permitting).

Accommodation: Gazebo Safari Lodge or similar - dinner, bed and breakfast (packs) basis
Day 2

Depart early morning (breakfast packs prepared) and undertake your game drive when the animals are most visible and active. Visit the reserve’s renowned Centenary Centre and the museum that depicts the history of live game capture and translocation of game, especially the white rhino, which would no doubt be extinct if not for the creation of this reserve. There may be an opportunity for a close-up encounter with an animal in the capture bomas (enclosures) awaiting their big move to other reserves. Return to the lodge for an afternoon 'sundowner' river cruise before enjoying a boma dinner reminiscing about the day’s sightings.

Accommodation: Gazebo Safari Lodge or similar - dinner, bed and breakfast basis
Day 3

Another early wake-up for a final game drive within the unique and wonderful Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Game Reserve. We return to our lodge in time to check out and connect to the transfer vehicle back to Durban with drop off at your hotel or Durban International Airport.
