Kariega Game Reserve

A natural extension to the Garden Route, Kariega is a 5 000 hectare malaria free 'Big-5' private game reserve situated 10 minutes from Kenton-on-Sea and just 80 minutes from Port Elizabeth.

In addition to superb morning and evening game viewing from open vehicles with experienced game rangers, Kariega is unique in its offering of safe walking close to abundant game and birdlife and a diversity of activities which include river cruises on the popular 'Kariega Queen', canoeing, mountain biking, swimming in beautiful river pools and visits to the nearby golden beaches of Kenton-on-Sea for bathing, a stroll or horse riding. Kariega prides itself on the abundance of general game and birdlife supplementing the 'Big Five'.

The reserve hosts over 25 game and 250 bird species, including lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, hippo, giraffe, zebra, eland, wildebeest, numerous other antelope species and resident martial, crowned and fish eagles.

Accommodation at Kariega is offered in 2 separate luxury lodges. Kariega Lodge comprises spacious and comfortable log chalets, all bedrooms en-suite, with private viewing decks and some with private pools. Fine traditional meals are provided in the Architectural Award winning restaurant or boma, which expertly integrate with nature and the environment and radiate an informal, friendly and relaxed atmosphere.

Ukhozi Lodge 'the place of Eagles' accommodates 20 guests in ten superbly appointed luxury suites crafted from logs, with panoramic views from private decks. The lodge boasts unique African-style lounges, restaurant and boma, with an outdoor heated pool.
