Namibia » Kaokoland » Lodges » Omarunga Camp

Omarunga Camp is situated on the banks of the Kunene river and only a short walk upstream from the spectacular Epupa Falls. Hidden in the shade of the exotic Makalani palm trees, Omarunga Camp is definitely one of Namibia's most secluded getaways.

Guests at Omarunga Camp will be tempted to just relax and absorb the breathtaking scenery of the Angolan mountains, and indulge themselves in the personal attention and European style hospitality of the camp.

The restaurant/bar and lounge are located in the thatched main building. A breakfast, light lunch and 3 course dinner are served here. There is also a Himba curio shop. Souvenirs and gifts purchased here, provide valuable income for the local community.

Omarunga Camp has 13 comfortable thatched chalets and 1 family room. Washbasins are located adjacent to every individual tent. Each tent is separately located and has en-suite facilities, a fan, mosquito nets and a tea/coffee station. They are beautifully fitted out with wooden beds, tables and quality bed linen.

A whole variety of activities await guests at Omarunga Camp; guests can explore the spectrum of smaller waterfalls, created by the 800mtr wide river system. The more adventurous can cool off in one of the crocodile-safe pools. Popular with Omarunga Camp's guests is the late afternoon sundowner tour. Enjoy a drink and a snack high atop a koppie, overlooking the magnificent Epupa waterfalls.

The cmpa's off-road vehicle, complete with local translator, will take you on a safari to visit the famous indigenous Himba. Largely untouched by modern civilization, the Ovahimba still live much as they did centuries ago. Guests visit a typical small village, where they can experience the traditional way of the Himba's. An inside view of how they herd and milk their cattle, build houses and create their own jewelry, is both informative and immensely enjoyable.

As Omarunga Camp only caters for small groups, a personal and undisturbed interaction with the Himba can be achieved.
