Namibia Fly-in Safaris

NAMIBIA VISIONS FLY-IN SAFARI

The Namibia Visions fly-in safari is unique in that it is pilot guided, and because not any pilot can guide we have set departure dates for this itinerary. This however does not rule out a 'private' fly-in safari.

Due to the size of Namibia it is difficult to visit the highlights by road in anything less than 2 weeks. This fly-in safari does combine luxury in the best privately owned properties (Onguma, Mowani and Wolwedans) with the flexibility and exclusivity of a private plane.

In only eight days you can cover Namibia from the Kunene (Himba people) all the way down to the Fish River Canon and Kolmaskop. On this fly-in safari we visit Etosha, Twyfelfontein, Damaraland, the Skeleton Coast, Swakopmund and the dunes of Sossusvlei.

DETAILED ITINERARY

Day 1: Windhoek to Etosha
From Windhoek's Eros Airport you commence on your charter flight to the Etosha National Park. From the Mokuti airstrip you transfer to Onguma Tented Camp for your 2 night stay. Onguma is located only eight kilometers from the Von Lindquist Gate on the eastern outskirts of the Etosha National Park. Originally part of the greater Etosha Game Reserve, Onguma is one of Namibia's best-kept secrets.

In the afternoon you take part in a nature drive on the reserve.
Accommodation: Onguma Tented Camp

Day 2: Etosha
After a leisurely breakfast, drive into the Etosha National Park for excellent game viewing. You can only go for the morning or opt to spend the whole day around the waterholes - the choice is yours. If you opt to spend the day, we can arrange for lunch packs at the lodge or you can have lunch at one of the Rest Camps inside the Park. Etosha consists of 22 270 km of saline desert, savannah and woodlands, and is one of the largest parks in Africa. Its definitive feature is the pan, a vast, shallow depression of approximately 5 000 km. Of the 114 mammal species found in the park, several are rare and endangered, such as the Black Rhino and Black-Faced Impala.

Having spent a day in Etosha (or just the morning) return to Onguma for a relaxed afternoon and sundowner.
Accommodation: Onguma Tented Camp

Day 3: Damaraland
After a leaisurely breakfast, depart for Damaraland where you land at noon. Transfer to Mowani Mountain Camp where you'll spend the next 2 nights. The camp is set in the Twyfelfontein Conservancy between the Ugab and Huab Rivers. Discover the pool deck, lodged between the boulders where you can soak up the sun whilst enjoying a refreshing drink and admire the breathtaking views from your deck chair. Lunch is followed by siesta and an afternoon excursion to the ancient rock engravings of Twyfelfontein. Return to the camp for sundown's and dinner.

Mowani is taken from the word Míwane, meaning 'Place of God', and it is here, that you will find the true meaning of peace and tranquility.
Accommodation: Mowani Mountain Camp

Optional Excursion: This day would also lend itself to an excursion to the Kunene region by plane, which, having a plane at your disposal is highly recommended. You would leave Onguma after breakfast and fly to Ruacana where you visit the Himba people as well as the impressive Falls. From Ruacana you head on to Epupa for a bird-eyes-view of the falls before heading on to Mowani where you arrive in time for sundowners on the massive granite boulders. This detour would come at an extra cost.

Day 4: Damaraland
Spend the day exploring Twyfelfontein and surrounds. Return to the camp for lunch and leisurely afternoon by the pool. Alternatively join a game drive down the riverbed in search for the rare Desert elephant.
Accommodation: Mowani Mountain Camp

Day 5: Wolwedans / Sossusvlei Area
After breakfast your charter flight will commence towards the coastal town of Swakopmund. Time permitting a short city tour and maybe an activity like quadbiking can be done. This will however be at your own expense - the pilot can assist in arranging these. Lunch at Swakopmund would be for own account, but lunch at Wolwedans would be included.

You continue towards the NamibRand Nature Reserve. This flight is exceptionally scenic. The flight path will take you - at the best time of the day imaginable - along the coast to Sandwich harbor, over a sea of sand (here you cannot but be reminded of the film 'English Patient', and circle over the towering dunes of Sossusvlei to Wolwedans. Indulge yourself and observe Namibia's number 1 tourist attraction from the best viewpoint imaginable; from the sky.

Arrive at Wolwedans just in time for sundowners after settling into your beautiful chalet with its own private verandah and a breathtaking view of the dunes, plains and distant mountains. Freshen up and enjoy a three-course candlelight dinner under a blanket of stars.
Accommodation: Wolwedans Dunes Lodge

Day 6: Wolwedans / Sossusvlei Area
After breakfast, depart on a day safari on the NamibRand Nature Reserve with a delicious picnic lunch served en-route. Absorb the unique NamibRand Nature Reserve landscape during your excursions by Land Rover through the dunes, endless grassy plains and along mystical mountain formations. You could encounter large and small desert-dwellers, learn about their unique habits and explore the ancient hunting spots of the Bushmen. Revel in the incredible landscape around you and Wolwedans' commitment to care for guest and nature alike. Here in this land of stretching blue skies, endless plains and countless creatures enacting natures savagely exciting passion play, you will find beauty feeding your soul, tranquility to clear your mind and space for your imagination to fly!

Do a morning excursion (or full day depending on logistics and time of year) on the Reserve, returning to the Wolwedans Dunes Lodge for lunch and a siesta during the midday heat. At ± 16h00, enjoy coffee and cake before joining everyone for sundowners on the deck preceding dinner.
Accommodation: Wolwedans Dunes Lodge

Day 7: Wolwedans / Sossusvlei Area
Enjoy a morning and/or afternoon excursion or a morning walk. Alternatively, relax on this last day of your holiday. Ballooning would fit in well today. After an early rise and one hour in the air you enjoy a Champagne breakfast on the landing spot. The afternoon can be spent at your leisure.
Accommodation: Wolwedans Dunes Lodge

Optional Excursion: A full day fly-in trip from Wolwedans to the Fish River Canyon and Lüderitzbucht. We depart Wolwedans after breakfast and fly straight to the Canyon. Transfer to the Canyon viewpoint where coffee/tea and snacks will be offered. Continue south and enjoy a bird-eyes-view of the world's second largest Canyon, and on to the Orange River (border to South Africa) before heading west towards Lüderitzbucht. Take a guided tour to the ghost town of Kolmanskop, followed by lunch and a city tour. The coastal town of Lüderitz is a small enclave within the Sperrgebiet (restricted Diamond Area) and s an impressive collection of historical German-style buildings, which were erected during the diamond rush.

The scenic return flight to Wolwedans can only be labeled spectacular. From Lüderitz you fly north along the Diamond Coast and over Spencer Bay and Mercury Island. From there route along the Lange Wand where massive dunes just seem to grow out of the sea, before heading east towards Wolwedans, arriving in the late afternoon.

Day 8: End of safari
Awake in the pristine desert dawn and soak in the atmosphere and landscape from your bed whilst enjoying early morning tea. After a leaisurely breakfast you are transferred to the airstrip to bid Wolwedans farewell and commence your return flight to Eros Airport in Windhoek where you will arrive before 11h00. Departure from Wolwedans is normally at 09h00 and the return flight is by Dune Hopper, a daily air-taxi, so there might be other passengers as well.

You will arrive in Windhoek in time to catch international flights to Johannesburg and Cape Town. In case you depart to Europe with Air Namibia, we recommend lunch and some shopping before you are transferred to the International airport. A dayroom can also be arranged.
