Halali is situated within the Etosha National Park, approximately halfway between Etosha's other two rest camps, Okaukuejo and Namutoni.
Opened in 1967 Halali was the last of the three Etosha rest camps to be established. The word 'Halali' is derived from a bugle call made to announce the end of the hunt. In past years the bugle was sounded when the gates of the camp were about to be shut. The camp is situated in the only hills in the Etosha area.
An interesting feature at Halali is the Tsumasa Trail, which leads up a small dolomite hill close to the camp. A point at the top of the hill affords a view of the Moringa waterhole, which is floodlit at night.
Shaded by mopani trees, Halali offers bungalow accommodation and has a restaurant, shop, swimming pool, filling station and well equipped campsite. Rest camps must be reached before sunset and may only be left after sunrise.
Park fees must be paid at either Namutoni or Okaukuejo before proceeding through the park to Halali.
