Fish River Lodge (previously known as Grande View Lodge) is an exclusive small lodge with a location, unmatched in the Fish River Canyon area. It is situated on the western rim and each en-suite chalet has a private view into the canyon.
The chalets at Fish River Lodge have natural rock walls. All beds and other furniture are comfortable, and made by local craftsmen. The linen is hand-picked and of good quality.
The dining / living room area has a veranda on the rim and sundowners can be enjoyed here, while watching the setting of the sun. The sunsets from this location are stunning, due to the fact that the view is toward the east, and the glare of the sun therefore not into the camera lens. The play of colors during sunset varies between hazy yellows, bright orange, reds and purple. When clouds are present, a tone of deep pink is added to the already magnificent display.
Quiver Trees are found in abundance on the property and in the immediate vicinity of the chalets & dining area. These make for beautiful foreground material during photo sessions.
Impressive rock formations can be viewed along the sheer dolomite cliffs. A 180° panoramic view from various viewpoints on the rim, provides for unforgettable hours of hiking, sight seeing and photography sessions. An afternoon 2 hour walk along a less strenuous rim-trail is a favorite pastime with overnight guests.
Fish River Lodge offers 6 chalets, each with en-suite facilities. They are built with natural rock by local expertise. Thatched roofs are also done by Namibian thatching teams, who provide their own unique flair and label to the product.
Activities at Fish River Lodge include a two-hour walking trail, which starts at the lodge and follows the rim of the canyon. Nature drives and walks with guides are offered.
