BAINES' CAMP

Baines' Camp is an exclusive oasis for those wishing to experience the true wilds of Botswana's Okavango Delta. Set amongst the shady trees on the southern edge of the Okavango Delta, overlooking a large perennial lagoon, Baines' Camp is the perfect combination of luxury, privacy and nature.

This private camp is located in the Okavango's seasonal delta. The flood waters arrive in June, though there is often navigable water all year round due to the presence of the Boro River.

Baines' Camp is named after the famed nineteenth century explorer and artist, Thomas Baines. The beautifully-appointed tents evoke an atmosphere of 'classic Africa', with hand-crafted beds, antique furniture and Thomas Baines paintings combining to create the surroundings of colonial-era luxury.

Baines' Camp features five luxurious suites set on elevated platforms in the tree line. Wooden decks offer expansive views over the permanent water of the Boro River and a lagoon teeming with life.

Each spacious thatched suite is individually decorated and is equipped with mosquito nets, hair-dryer, ceiling fan, in-room safe, minibar, in-room emergency intercom and en-suites facilities. Each suite also includes a fully mobile four-poster bed which offers guests the opportunity of spending the night under the African skies.

Panoramic views and vistas of the permanent water lagoon can be enjoyed not only from the privacy of your own suite but also from the infinity pool or from the spacious lounge and dining area.

As Baines' Camp is situated on a private concession neighbouring the Moremi, game viewing of all animal and bird species is superb. Guests may explore by land and water, often into the night to discover nocturnal species. The permanent water of Baines' Camp will reveal a world of floating safaris, atmospherically silent at the gentle pace of a poled mokoro (dug-out-canoe) excursion, or faster in a comfortable shaded motorboat (subject to water levels).

A myriad of waterways, feathery beds of papyrus, and animal species, large and small, are waiting to be discovered. Sometimes there is no better way to tune into the bush than on foot, and walking safaris is a speciality at Baines' Camp, with skilled, armed guides introducing the area's natural wonders.
